Laura J. Fowler is an attorney in the Labor & Employment Law practice group of Best Best & Krieger LLP. Prior to joining the firm in 2010, she was an attorney with McDonough Holland & Allen in Sacramento.

Ms. Fowler specializes in employment law, representing employers in a variety of court and administrative proceedings. She defends both public and private employers in lawsuits for wrongful termination, breach of contract, unpaid wages, harassment, failure to accommodate, retaliation, and discrimination. She represents both public and private employers in administrative proceedings filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Labor Commissioner, and the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. Ms. Fowler also drafts employee handbooks, policies, employment agreements, and severance agreements. She provides employers with day-to-day advice regarding wage and hour issues, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, and decisions regarding discipline and termination.

Ms. Fowler is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Sacramento Area Human Resources Association, and the Sacramento Employers Advisory Council. She has presented seminars on a number of employment-related issues and also has acted as a guest lecturer at McGeorge School of Law. 

Ms. Fowler received her Juris Doctor, with great distinction and order of the coif, from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. She graduated as valedictorian and was selected by the law school faculty as the outstanding graduating senior for her graduating class.   Ms. Fowler served as a writer and editor for the Pacific Law Journal. She was a law clerk for the Hon. Milton L. Schwartz, U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of California.
